This web publication is the result of a series of improvisations by Daryll Bellingham and students from schools in the Bauhinia Shire PCAP Cluster. The stories were created using a narrative structure framework, taped and then transcribed and edited. They were then presented to the students in the following days as web page publications with the assistance of the school’s data projector. This gave students a chance to comment on the stories, make suggestions on improvements and see editing take place on the spot.
These workshops were part of the Bauhinia Shire Writers in Residence Week and were designed to demonstrate one method of taking events from students’ own experiences and turning them into pieces of fiction.
Funding from the PCAP (Priority Country Area Program) Central Area enabled the cluster to bring five artists - writers, illustrators, publishers and storytellers - to Springsure for four days to demonstrate picture storybook creation and publishing. The artists were Narelle Oliver, Sharon Dye, Mark Svendeen, Jill Morris and myself, Daryll Bellingham.
The schools involved were Springsure State School, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School, Gindie State School, Orion State School, Tresswell State School and Lochington State School.
Our thanks go to PCAP Central field officer Raylene Hansen and Orion State School Principal, Zoe Smith for supporting and organising the project, the teachers, students and parents for their involvement and support and the management of the Zamia Motel in Springsure for their wonderful hospitality and support.
Further stories will be added to this web publication as they are completed through email correspondence with students from Rolleston and Orion schools.
