Robert finds a light bulb

Once a upon a time there was a young boy called Robert.

He was walking down the footpath outside his house one day when he saw something bright and shiny.

He bent down and picked it up and do you know what it was?

It was a light bulb.

He went running home and said, "Mum. Mum. Look what I found. It's a light bulb."

She said, "Oh. That's nice dear. How about you go and wash your hands for dinner."

Robert said, "Mum. Can I put the light bulb up on the roof? It can be the start of our Christmas decorations."

His Mum said, "All right dear. Be careful up on that roof."

Robert said, "No worries Mum."

He got a ladder out of the garage and climbed carefully up on the roof.

He put the light bulb right up on the top of the chimney and do you know what? It started blinking."

Robert climbed down and put the ladder back in the garage and went to watch T.V. He had just started watching 'The Wiggles' when he heard a knock on the door.

He jumped up and said "I'll get it Mum!"

When he opened the door do you know who was there? It was a little Teddie Bear who said, "Hello."

Robert said, "Teddie Bears can't talk."

The Teddie Bear said, "Says who? I've been to preschool just like you!"

The little Bear ran in between Robert's legs, sat down in Robert's favourite chair and started watching The Wiggles as well. They were singing 'When Mr Clickety Cane Plays a Silly Game.'

Robert's grandmother was sitting watching T.V. and knitting with her knitting needles and wool - click, click, click. Do you know what she was knitting? It was a turtle and when the turtle was finished it opened it's mouth and bit the Teddie Bear on the ear.

The Teddie Bear said, "Ouch! You can't bite me."

The Turtle said, "Says who. I've been to preschool just like you!"

They started to fight on the floor in front of the TV - pow, biff, bump, bite!

Robert reached into his pocket and pulled out his magic rock. He rubbed the rock really hard and said, "Abracadbra! Allaca Zam! Stop this fighting or you'll scram!"

They stopped fighting and made up and were friends again. When they looked outside the light bulb had stopped blinking!

The above story was created as the third story in one of my shows on the 14th October, 1997 at the Ironside Preschool in St. Lucia, Brisbane with 4 and 5 year old children. It was improvised by having 4 children pull one object each out of my Magic Storytelling Bag and then putting the story together with suggestions from the other children. The four objects were a light bulb, a Teddie Bear, knitting needles and a rock. The drawings were created after I left by Jeba and another preschooler.
